Before you can consider a remedy for your foot odor, you need to know what is causing the problem in the first place.

There are two important factors in smelly feet. Sweating is the first and it is something everyone has to do because it regulates body temperature and helps to eliminate bodily waste products.
However, some people do sweat more than they should do and this is a medical problem called hyperhidrosis.

The sweat is an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and it is this bacteria, when it decomposes, that causes the tell-tale odour of smelly feet.

To treat foot odour:

• Submerge your feet in soapy water and wash them clean twice a day.
• Avoid synthetic shoes and socks.
• use specialist foot antiperspirant but avoid deodorant.
• Let your feet breathe by going barefoot or wearing sandals for some of the day.
• Drink plenty of water.
• Cut down on strong smelling foods like garlic.
• Exfoliate hard skin as this can block pores and cause excess sweating.
• Wipe your feet clean with surgical spirit.
• Spray cornstarch inside your shoes.
• Don’t wear the same footwear for two days running.
